Effects of Otostegia persica (Burm.) Boiss on morphine withdrawal syndrome in mice
Authors
Abstract:
Effect of Otostegia persica on naloxone-induced morphine withdrawal syndrome was studied in male mice. Dependence was induced using daily subcutaneous injections of morphine for three days. Morphine was injected to mice at doses of 30 and 45mg/kg on day 1 and 60 and 90mg/kg on day 2 (8:00 am and 6:00 pm). On day 3, morphine (90mg/kg) was injected 1h before oral administration and 1.5h before intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of hydroalcoholic and hexane extracts of the plant. Naloxone was injected (5mg/kg, i.p.) 2h after the final dose of morphine and the withdrawal signs including jumping, rearing, diarrhoea, piloerection, tremor and ptosis were recorded during a period of 30 minutes. While oral and i.p. administration of hydroalcoholic extract reduced the number of jumping and rearing, the hexane extract could not exert any significant change. Also the hydroalcoholic extract (1500mg/kg) significantly (p

full textThe effect of Ferula persica on modulation of withdrawal syndrome sign in morphine-dependent mice
Tolerance and dependence are two main problems that have limited morphine administration. There are several reports on the effect of some medicinal plants on morphine-induced tolerance and dependence. In this study we investigated the effect of Ferula persica (FP) extract on modulation of withdrawal syndrome sign (WSS). For this purpose, male Albino mice (25-30 g, n=30) were used. Morphine was ...

full textEffect of Nepeta glomerulosa Boiss. Aerial Parts Aqueous Extract on Morphine Withdrawal Syndrome in Mice
The effect of aqueous extract of Nepata glomerulosa Boiss. aerial parts on morphine withdrawal syndrome was investigated in mice. Dependence was induced by subcutaneous injections of morphine for 3 consecutive days. On day 4, morphine was injected 2 h prior to intraperitoneal injection of naloxone. The number of jumps during a 20 min. period after naloxone injection was considere...
full textThe effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Otostegia persica (Burm.) Boiss. against H2O2-induced oxidative stress in human endothelial cells
Background and objectives: Otostegia persica (Burm.) Boiss. is an endemic plant of Iran with various applications in traditional medicine which contains of several antioxidant constituents. This research was aimed to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract from O. persica aerial parts in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as an inducer of oxi...
